U.S. House Representatives (FL)

The U.S. House of Representatives is the second of two parts of the U.S. Congress. The major power of the House is to pass Federal Legislation that affect the country as a whole. Federal Legislation passed by the House must then by passed by the Senate and President, respectively, before becoming law.

Each state is represented in the House by its population. Florida's population allows for 25 Representatives. Representatives serve a term of two years.

The Speaker of the House is elected by the members of the House and traditionally the leader of the House Democratic Caucus or the House Republican Conference; which ever has the most votes. The total Representatives include both Voting (435) and non-voting (6). As of 2012, the Republican Party hold 242 seats and the Democratic Party holds 190.
